makashuu asked: Since ACEN was moved up two weeks this year, are you going to go? Or is there still not enough time,money,real life in between ACEN and AnimeNorth (that is, I am assuming, that you are doing stuff for AnimeNorth)?
Pending any major development, probably not, sadly. Proximity to AN is one this, but budgeting both for money and days off is another biggie. I’d like to go, but work stuff makes that tough.
Basically, I get 15 weekdays off a year. I’ve used up 3 so far. 1 will likely go for a final snowboarding day, 1 for AN, 1-2 for ANext, 2 for my usual camping trip with friends, 1 for Youmacon. Sadly it puts me at 10 days spent before I even try more garden variety days off, and looking at the calendar I’ll need 4 or so to get a nice Christmas vacation booked off.
I do enjoy cons, but the travel distance for most of them for me means I have to take vacation days to get there, often more than one to actually be there for the entire con. My job lets me cheat a little bit (i.e. leave early and make up hours) but that usually means I can get there for Thursday night; for most cons, the travel cost involved means it’s just too expensive/tiring to travel that far for only a single full day of convention. For short haul cons, leaving work a bit early Friday and getting there in the evening isn’t so bad. For long haul, either the 10 hours or $400+ to get there just makes it a losing proposition.
tldr; I’ve gotta cut back a bit on con trips for both vacation and money things. I need some vacations where I don’t come back even more exhausted :P
